If you’ve got a shoe collection that rivals that of Carrie Bradshaw, you’re probably anxious to add some new heels to it for the upcoming season. Whether you’re headed into the office or out for dinner, these gorgeous shoes are sure to help you step out in style this spring.
Gladiator heels and sandal boots
Gladiator heels and sandal boots made a big statement on the runways this season, with Alexander Wang and Joseph Altuzarra’s knee-high sandal boots creating a style that is at once chic and futuristic. If you’re going to try out knee-high gladiator heels, pair them with short skirts, dresses, or shorts to draw attention to your bold footwear choice. Acne’s purple plastic sandal boots and Proezna Schouler’s Tough-Girl sandal boots are sure to help you make a statement. On the other end of the spectrum, shorter sandal boots can be worn with a maxi halter dress or jeans to create a stylish yet casual look.
Show off your eclectic taste with a pair of mixed media heels. This trend puts unlikely prints and fabrics together to create a footwear statement that’s truly fashion-forward. The best way to describe the trend is to provide a few examples. Belstaff’s snakeskin wedge sandal utilises a reptile print material for the base of its shoe, except for the heel, which features an exposed wooden platform. Givenchy’s spring 2013 mixed media heels feature a chunky wooden heel that slims down to a golden triangle at the base, and a barely-there clear vinyl panel at the front. Finally, Robert Clergerie’s Quimiss Shoes feature a snake-textured toe and heel with gold and pale pink leather being used for the base of the shoe.
Colour blocking is a big trend this season, but if you’re not ready to take on the trend in your blouse or dress choices for spring/summer 2013, make a statement with your footwear instead. Sergio Rossi’s printed pump features a black-and-white houndstooth print for the base of the shoe with a ruby red toe cap; this pair of shoes would look great with anything from a pair of dark wash jeans to that classic white-button down blouse and pencil skirt look for the office. Another one of our favourite colour-blocked shoes is the Nine West Jule heel, which combines red, muted green, and light purple leather all in one shoe. Remember to keep your clothing choices muted to balance out the bold statement made by colour-blocked heels.
